Management and Leadership in Organizations
This is a report of an article that first appeared in Herald-times on 10th June 2012. The writer of the article has singled out two firms and an individual who have thrived courtesy of sound leadership and management prowess. This paper is interested in unearthing those management and leadership concepts adopted by these firms which lead the pack in their respective fields. 

Expansion of Orion management group
According to the newspaper article, Orion real estate is an arm of a company called Orion management group. The mother company first came into operation in 2009. This firm is specialized in the management of property especially commercial. In addition, the firm is celebrated as one of the companies with operations all over Indiana. Its widening branches has seen it manage properties in Bedford county and Munice. The mother company that often deals with management is also based in Monroe County where it deals with residential units’ management.  However, the firm is not limited to management of commercial property. With the ever booming real estate business, the company established a real estate arm to help it benefit from the housing sector. 

The Orion management group real estate infant arm has rapidly grown and was now venturing into residential sales.  Constantly growing firms tend to attract the best brains in the industry and Orion real estate is not an exemption. Orion real estate has attracted a top notch brain, one Linda Stephens. Stephens brings with her 27 year experience in the sector. According to the author, her achievements in the Bloomington market can never be quantified. Borrowing the author words, ‘she has excelled in Bloomington market during her career’ (Herald-Times). With Stephens stamping her authority in the operations of the firm, Orion Real estate seeks to harness more market share and increase agents by expanding rapidly. Orion management group is a company that seems to be enjoying sound management and leadership. This is so because it is able to attract excellent brains in the industry. In addition, being able to establish a branch that has thrived in the real estate depicts it as an organization with sound planning and projections. Moreover, its wide network implies that the firm is meeting the needs of its customers. Customer satisfaction is paramount if a firm is to increase its profitability and stay in the course of its long term plans. 

Rewarding excellence
Rewarding excellence is one of at most importance aspects of staff motivation. An organization that rewards its employee’s performance often tends to stay ahead of their competitors. In addition, these firms tend to attract top excellent brains while being able to retain those already in its system.  According to the newspaper article, Women with exemplary leadership in the management of their organizations were identified and rewarded by an event hosted by Bloomington chamber of commerce (Herald-Times). This inspirational event brings together top seven women in the society, mostly those who have made major strides in running the organizations they are in charge. 

Customer Service
The article is very candid in the recognition of firms that have received awards for leading the pack in customer service. In the piece, Regency Apartments was accorded an accolade for being the firm with the best customer service in the industry. Customers are very important stakeholders of an organization. There handling can be a blessing or a curse to an organization. In the contemporary business society, customers are often referred as ‘bosses’. A firm that is sensitive to their plight is able to thrive and be able to stay ahead of its competitors. The management of an organization are responsible for the production of quality products, those that meet or even surpass the needs of their customers. The move to make decisions in accordance with consumer needs is paramount for a firm that looks to increase its profitability. Given a number of choices, customers often go for a firm that listens to them. To have such credentials a firm management and leadership needs to be the appealing face. 

According to the article, Regency Apartment was awarded the prestigious Excellence Award after a survey where consumers were largely involved. A firm with an ability to outperform its competitors in providing quality services to its clients is often chosen by CEL & Associates for the award.  Organizations need to engage their customers’ often through surveys and encourage feedback to be able to develop high standard products. The aforementioned move is only possible if a firm enjoys the good will from sound leaders and managers. From the article, Regency Apartments has participated in the survey for eight years. This may be the reason why it has been able to secure the first spot for five consecutive years. Participating in surveys helps a firm identify its weak and strong points in services. While building on its strength, it is able to address its weak areas.  Addressing customer concerns and developing sound plans to address issues that might arise in the future will boost a firm’s image in the public. Moreover, customer surveys are a source of new industry ideas.  An organization that participates in surveys is better placed to implement new plans and advance new concepts that will address the immediate concerns of the customers. 

In conclusion, the article has brought to the forefront the results of a sound management and leadership. The Orion management group is a good example of a firm that has been able to Marshall excellent brains to meet its expansion goals. In addition, the organization is sensitive to the changing dynamics in the real estate market. This sensitivity has seen it open a new branch that deals exclusively on real estate matters. The rewarding of excellent performers is another aspect that is largely aligned to sound management and leadership. From the article, it is apparent that the move to rewards brings with it motivation. Firms need to borrow the actions of Bloomington chamber of commerce needs. This will enable them reward their best performers. Rewarded employees tend to offer their best to company operations. This will enhance the company performance level in both short and long run. In addition, an organization is able to attract the best brains in the market. In accordance to the customer service aspect, regency apartment has won five consecutive accolades courtesy of constant improvements of its services. From the newspaper, the firm has participated in surveys for a good eight years. This has enabled it harness new ideas from its consumers which it has coined to its advantage. Staying ahead of competitors for five years is only synonymous to an organization with a sound management and keen sensitive leadership.
